Do you ever long for your youth, when you played dodgeball in PE class? I can’t say that I do, but my husband has a few stories he likes to tell about his days of dodgeball glory. Little did I know that there’s an adult dodgeball league right here in Pittsburgh that he could join and show me all his moves. How do I know? Because that’s where Katie and Derek met. They claim that it is neither cutthroat nor intense, and that they spent just as much time standing around as they did pummeling each other. Good thing, since that gave them an opportunity to get to know each other, and eventually decide to get married!

I’m thrilled to be photographing their wedding at the fabulous Heinz History Center next spring. We recently met at my favorite photo location, Mellon Park, for their engagement session. A few days before the shoot I realized that setup for A Fair in the Park would be underway while we were there. Fortunately, this ended up to not be a problem and we were able to utilize all of my favorite spots.

At this time of year, starting the shoot at about 5pm provided the ideal light to make Katie & Derek look their best. And it was a good thing we didn’t start any later, because rain started hitting my windshield within minutes of leaving the park!

Here are a few of my favorites from Katie & Derek’s session.
