After Paula arrived at Phipps and started to put her makeup on, she quoted to me the number of days she and Jimmy had been engaged. I don’t remember the exact number… but it was over seven hundred. That’s a long time to wait! After that extended anticipation, she and Jimmy couldn’t have been happier or had bigger smiles during their emotional ceremony on a beautiful sunny day at Phipps Conservatory in Oakland.
At the end of their just-the-right-length-ceremony, Paula and Jimmy honored each of her sons with a gift and a hug, celebrating the new family they’ve formed together. Guests then enjoyed cocktail hour in the garden while my second shooter, the phenomenal Pamela Marie, captured portraits of family and then just the bride and groom.
Hearts and Flowers did a fabulous job with all the floral decor – I particularly loved the snapdragons in the centerpieces. And, I have to give special kudos to the band, an energetic team from Bachelor Boys Band. They played a terrific range of crowd-pleasers and songs you don’t hear quite so much at a wedding, including “You Really Got Me” by the Kinks and “Kids” by MGMT. Even more remarkably, when they started noodling the first few notes of “Kids,” one guest thought they were about to play “Gloria.” So “Gloria” was what they played next. Pretty impressive to take a request on the fly like that!
