It’s been one rainy spring. So when yesterday brought a beautiful sunny spring day, my three-year-old Jonas and I decided to take advantage and go on a duck boat. If you’re not familiar, Just Ducky Tours operates a whole family of amphibious vehicles that take you through downtown Pittsburgh, across the Allegheny River to the North Shore, and then right on down into the Ohio River. Meanwhile, witty guides regale you with fowl puns and facts about the city’s history and architecture. Even if you’ve lived in Pittsburgh your whole life, you will learn something you never knew. And if you are downtown talking on your cell phone and see a duck boat go by… get ready, for its passengers are about to quack at you.
Our guide, Anthony, was even able to operate my camera with its tricky back button focusing and took this of the little adorable and me.

We did get a bit more duck boat ride than we expected. We initially set off in this red duck boat, Dahntahn Dottie. Dottie got a little persnickety and decided to ditch us outside PNC Park. We were very grateful that she chose to break down on dry land! Would have been pretty interesting if we’d still been in the river.
During our trip, Jonas had gotten a good look at the incline, and was eager to take a trip up. So we walked over to the Monongahela incline and rode up to the top. Ice cream time!
Jonas and I each ordered soft ice cream at DiFiore’s on Shiloh Street on Mount Washington. I wasn’t expecting anything extraordinary – but wow! It was amazing! So very creamy. If you are looking for somewhere to get a cool treat, I would definitely recommend stopping by. It’s just half a block from a most wonderful view of downtown Pittsburgh, and I would have to say it’s the best soft ice cream I’ve had in a very long time. Does Jonas agree?
They have food, too.
