Pittsburgh Fireworks (not 4th of July, but in the spirit)

I’m currently in Boston enjoying a couple kid-free days with my husband, but in the spirit of 4th of July, am sharing a few fireworks photos. I shot these back on June 25th, when Pittsburgh held a big Skyblast and Huey Lewis concert in honor of Heather and Bill’s fabulous destination wedding. Okay, maybe not in their honor, but we can pretend, right?

Since Heather and Bill had their ceremony on the Gateway Clipper, and the boat dropped us all off at PNC Park, at the end of the night I got on another Gateway Clipper boat to be shuttled back over to Station Square where I’d parked my car. That gave me a great view of the fireworks and these photos.

It’s pretty difficult to get a great fireworks photo without a tripod – and I was not going to be carrying a tripod around all night – so I had to make do with leaning on the railing of the boat.

undefinedAs the boat was moving, I decided instead to focus my attention on non-fireworks, like these amazing reflections in the Allegheny River.undefinedAnd this downtown building looking kind of demonic from reflected red fireworks.

undefinedHappy 4th of July!

Boys on Wheels

It’s a sure thing these days at my house that after dinner, either Leo (6) or Jonas (3) will say, “can we go for a walk?”

What they really mean is, “can we go ride our trike/scooter?”

We’re working on transitioning Leo to riding a 2-wheel bike, but for the moment he’s really pleased at how well he gets around on his razor scooter. And Jonas is thrilled to be pedaling away on his tricycle. Meanwhile, I can hardly stand how adorable they are. And it makes me so happy to see how much they enjoy being outside and doing the same things kids have done for generations. undefinedundefinedundefinedJonas’s favorite part is flying down the hill. Even though it means pulling the trike back up because it’s too steep for him to pedal.undefinedNaturally, they race.undefinedLeo tends to win.undefinedundefinedI try not to interfere with their fun, but some portraits must be made.undefinedundefinedundefined

Photographer end note… all images shot with a Canon 135mm f2L lens, which really is a very special piece of glass. Focuses faster than anything and the image quality is outstanding. Love it.

These are the cutest bikers I’ve ever seen. I’m so glad that you are making good use of the 135mm.
After seeing the photo of Jonas with his tongue out, I’m coming over to steal him! I love the photo of the race starting. <3
