I’ve recently discovered a variety of photography-related podcasts available through iTunes, and am slowly making my way through them. It’s rare that photography isn’t on my mind – even while driving, I find myself examining my surroundings for good locations – and now I have the added bonus of listening to skilled professionals sharing their expertise and advice as well.
So far, my favorite is easily Camera Dojo. Hosted by California wedding photographers Kerry Garrison and David Esquire, this weekly podcast achieves an excellent balance, covering technical shooting tips, creative and artistic elements, photography equipment and gadgets, software and business. Kerry and David get to the core of everyday issues, and do a great job of providing detailed, easy-to-understand answers to common, basic questions – without boring the more advanced photographer.
They often have guests on the show. These might be other photographers or entrepreneurs of photography equipment – or in some cases, both. My favorites so far (there are still a number of them out there I haven’t listened to):
- Roberto Valenzuela (I’ll refrain from adding his nickname ***…)
I felt very connected to Roberto’s suggestion about seeing the everyday world around you photographically – looking for converging lines, textures, patterns… I’ve been doing this for some time now. In fact, I can’t find the off switch! No matter where I am, I’m always looking for the best light and best composition. No matter that my camera is at home, miles away… But I digress. - Candice Cunningham
I was amazed at Candice’s description of all the little extras and personal attention she gives her clients. Working with Candice sounds like working with the concierge at the Ritz-Carlton.
Thank you Kerry and David for this terrific resource!
*** Roberto – I’m sorry, but this was too funny not to share. I was listening to the Pro Photo Show podcast when I picked up my boys today. Upon hearing a man’s voice talking about photography, my 4-year-old asked, “is this the zebra’s butt guy?”
