I am 100% aware of what a wonderful job I have. I have the opportunity to be a part of some of the most memorable, happy and meaningful events families experience throughout their entire lives. There’s a lot of boring, mundane, meaningless stuff we adults have to get done. Like for example, later today I have the chore of going to get new tires. Greaaaaat.
So it is not lost on me at all when I have the opportunity to take part in a special event like Zoë’s bat mitzvah. Every time I shoot a bat mitzvah or bar mitzvah, I’m struck at how rich, deep and significant this rite of passage is. I love hearing the bat mitzvah child give their speech about what their study has meant to them, and what they hope to accomplish going forward. And then, to hear their parents speak about their journey… it’s remarkable. Especially when you have parents as eloquent as Mike and Lisa. I loved that Lisa said that instead of being proud of our children, we should be happy for them, while the children are proud of themselves.
Zoë’s bat mitzvah ceremony took place at Temple Ohav Shalom in Allison Park, with Rabbi Milkow. Later that evening, she and her friends celebrated at beautiful Wildwood Golf Club with dancing (of course, the hora!) and entertainment provided by DJ Sosa and dancers from Entertainment Unlimited.
