Five under six at the Arboretum at Penn State

I have a lot of fun photos from our trip to eastern Pennsylvania for Memorial Day weekend, but first I want to share a few from our quick trip to State College, PA the previous weekend. We had planned our visit for a few reasons. One, because we’re rather fond of the town, seeing as that’s where Matt and I met. Two, because Leo often talks fondly of the last time we were there. Specifically, he says “when can we go to that hotel with the pool again?” We could probably just drive to Monroeville and stay at any hotel with a pool and  he’d be just as happy.

But most importantly, our good friends now live in State College and we wanted to pay them a visit. We did spent plenty of time in the hotel pool, but I think the highlight was our visit to the newly constructed, and not yet completed, Arboretum at Penn State. It’s a little crazy with five kids ages 5, 4, 2, 2, 1 around, but it’s also a lot of fun.

We arrived a little before our friends and began to explore the area.

While Matt rested on a bench and I turned my attention to… can you believe it… photographing some flowers, the boys made a break for a big open field. I thought, eh, they’ll come right back.

Or, maybe not. They must have had something important to do.

I was impressed that they’d wandered into this tall grass. When I finally caught up to them, Jonas stood still in the grass, and called to me, “the grass is in my way!”

I pointed out that he’d gotten himself in there, but he wanted help getting back out. Yay for big brother!

Free to run again!

The Winters family arrives! Here’s Paige, the youngest. Her brother had set this pump off moments before, so of course she wanted to do the same.

With her big sister Neva, who’s just nine days younger than Jonas.

Jack, the oldest, found a great game: driving his car along these carved stones.

And finally, Jonas’s subtle hint that he was tired and ready to leave. Or maybe he just finds concrete comfortable.

This is a great series of photos. Looks like fun. I love the tall grass and Leo by the water.
