Scrambled, dyed, hidden, found

My boys really like scrambled eggs. I’m not sure which part they like more, whisking them or eating them. I expected that 2-year-old Jonas would whisk too hard and scrambled egg would splash everywhere, but he was very careful and gentle.

When it was Jonas’s turn to whisk, Leo stood right behind him. I suggested that he might want to give Jonas a bit more space, but he explained that he had to stay there “to protect Jonas so he doesn’t fall down.” Awww.

These egg-loving boys also had a blast dyeing eggs. Leo drops the dye tablets in…

And Jonas drops an egg in. As you see, he did not apply the same level of care here as he did with scrambling the eggs. I’d say he more resembled someone playing a carnival game where the goal is to toss the eggs in.

At first they used spoons to remove the eggs.

But I guess that was too much trouble.

Most of the eggs took dips in multiple colors. Multiple times.

We couldn’t wait for Easter, so as soon as the eggs were dry, the hunts began.

First I hid them among the train tracks in the basement.

Jonas continued the carnival toss approach to putting them in the basket.

Next, Matt hid the eggs in the boys’ room.

Not pictured: several additional rounds. Leo hid the eggs in the living room and I found them (a few times), I hid the eggs in my room and Leo found them (a few times), and when I eventually couldn’t bear to hide or hunt for another egg, Leo hid them and Leo found them.

The whole process was pretty hard on the eggs.

What a great memory for you and your kids. I hope you found all of the eggs!

Without a doubt, the most creative and unique cupcakes I’ve ever seen.

I’ve never seen cupcakes like these! Yesterday, shopping at McGinnis Sisters in Monroeville (one of my favorites for produce) I spotted these works of art. They’re inverted cupcakes, completely smothered with frosting and decorated to look like frogs and chicks. And look at the price – $1.99 each! What a bargain. If I or my kids actually liked to eat cupcakes, I surely would have bought a couple. But since the boys don’t eat them, and I don’t like them enough to justify the calories, I just admired them through the glass.

Forgive the horrid photo, shot very quickly with my point and shoot as my children were running short on patience for grocery shopping.

I would think that a talented and patient baker would be able to do something like this with a bride and groom. Well – at least a bride. I can imagine a cupcake with white icing flowing down like a gown. I suppose a tuxedo would be a little harder.

Any post that involves cupcakes is one I wish to comment on. And these are SO cute! ::analyzing to figure out how to do them…::
