Thanksgiving Weekend 2009

I’m a little behind schedule in sharing these photos from my family’s Thanksgiving weekend. I’ve been having a blast creating a new action in Photoshop that in one fell swoop…

  • resizes for web
  • adds a border
  • adds my logo
  • sharpens for web

… and best of all – it does this whether the image is portrait or landscape! Hooray! And then, of course, I also created a droplet to add to my export settings in Lightroom, so that I can run this action right from there. Thank you, Adobe, for creating these tools to help make my workflow super efficient. And I have more time for things I love, like playing cars with my boys, cooking a real dinner (last night – salmon & broccoli), or relaxing with a fine ale. Thanks also to this tutorial from the entertaining Russell Brown at Adobe for helping me figure out how to create one action for any orientation image.

We spent Thanksgiving Day at my father-in-law’s house. After dinner, Matt & Leo played a little Wii. And I played around with some TTL wireless flash. Because I am very thankful for my speedlights. :)

I think Jonas was pretending that this was a Wii controller and he was in the game.

Playing Star Wars Lego. They’ve found some special thing that …. oh, I forget. Does something like fling moose poop. So Leo’s flinging moose poop or whatever it is at Darth Vader. Hilarity!

The day after Thanksgiving, we headed east to visit my family. My brother reminisced about a game we played long ago, Sjoelen. This is a shuffleboard-like game, where a very long board is placed on a table, and you slide wooden puck-like objects along it, trying to get them through small gaps at the other end. If I recall correctly, my dad somehow managed to get this game home from the Netherlands. No idea how he did it! Here’s a youtube video of someone playing Sjoelen. They’ve chosen the rather dramatic soundtrack of Chopin’s Revolutionary Etude.

We thought it would be fun to give it a try with the kids, so my mom dragged the board out of the depths of a closet. Fun ensued!

Leo was a natural!

Leo’s cousin/my nephew, Jake

One more: here’s Leo’s cousin/my niece Emma, relaxing in front of the fire. The backlight here is from a Canon 430ex sitting on top of the mantle. Yes, my dear husband did snicker at me bringing flashes everywhere. And I do deserve to be snickered at – but hey, I do like the photo.
