Molly and Frank { Good Samaritan, Ambridge – Pittsburgh Airport Marquis }

A perfect Pittsburgh wedding!

On Saturday, November 7, 2009, I joined Pamela Marie to photograph Molly and Frank’s wedding. We were so lucky to have an unseasonably warm and beautiful day. Nothing but blue skies and mid-60s temperatures. In fact, the only thing I can think of to be unhappy about is that this was my last wedding with Pamela this year.

We began at Molly’s mother’s house.

These two flower girls are 2 of 3 triplets. Here they’re watching as Molly gets into her dress.

(By the way… the above may look like natural light… but it’s not. There was a big window in the room, but I felt we needed a bit more light. So I put a flash in the corner of the room and bounced it off the white walls. Voila – more beautiful soft light throughout the whole room.)

This little ring bearer was lots of fun. He hung with the guys all morning and was a perfect gentleman all throughout the ceremony. He did however, tire of the hoopla just as it was time for the bridal party photo on the altar after the ceremony. Seems like he found running away and hiding under the pews more fun. What to do? Everyone’s standing on the altar, waiting for the picture, and of course time is always tight.

So, I snuck up to him and offered him a dollar if he’d go be in the picture. ZOOM! Off he went. And I did deliver as promised.

The flower girls did their duty perfectly.

After the ceremony at Good Samaritan Church in Ambridge, we headed to a small park in Sewickley for some portraits of Molly and Frank.

Reception – Pittsburgh Airport Marriott

As Daylight Savings Time was upon us, it was dark before we knew it, and we headed off to Molly and Frank’s reception at the Pittsburgh Airport Marriott. They did a great job with the lighting behind the bridal party table.

These are lovely, Christy. The second and third images are beautiful and the cake shot is WOW! Beautiful couple.

Angie & Alex

Last Saturday I joined the fabulous Randi Voss for Angie and Alex’s wedding day. We started the day at Angie’s grandmother’s house in Connoquenessing, which is a bit north of Pittsburgh. I think Connoquenessing is pretty fun to say and am eager for opportunities to drop it into conversation.

A couple days before the wedding I received a new grid spot I’d ordered, and was excited to try it out. So I used it on some of the very first images of the day, including the one below on the left of Angie’s dress. A grid spot is a light modifier that attaches to the flash head, and creates a narrow beam of directional light with soft-edged shadows. I love the dramatic effect.

Angie makes her way into her dress. She asked “remind me why I bought such a puffy dress?” Simple answer: because she looked stunning in it!

Angie’s flowers – gorgeous! (And I’m using the grid spot again.)

Right behind the church where Angie and Alex had their ceremony was a perfect area for some post-ceremony pictures. We were going to stop at Moraine State Park, but this place was perfect – there was no need.

Angie and Alex’s reception was at Scottish Rite Cathedral in New Castle, about an hour and a half from Pittsburgh.

Probably my favorite of the day… flower girl Emma.

It was a great pleasure to be able to capture this next series. This was not Angie and Alex’s first dance, but actually a little later in the evening. I’ve noticed that I very rarely see the bride and groom together on the dance floor after their first dance as they’re so busy visiting with friends and family. So I was touched to see Angie and Alex taking a moment for themselves and seeing how clearly wrapped up and enthralled with each other they are.
